Chilingarov in the documentary project "Kings of the Oceans. Icebreakers"

President of the Association of Polar Explorers Arthur Chilingarov was interviewed by Channel One for the documentary "Kings of the Oceans. Icebreakers. The film is about the history of the icebreaking fleet of Russia.

The film will talk about the current state of Russian shipbuilding, an important part of which is the creation of icebreakers. The only plant in the world, producing nuclear-powered icebreakers, will be shown. The viewer will be able to visit the mechanic and assembly shops, the slipway and the plant quay, where the icebreakers of project 22220, following the pilot Arktika, are assembled. The Project 22220 nuclear-powered icebreakers are the biggest and most powerful ice-class ships in the world. The Arktika is the first icebreaker of the newest type and the first Russian nuclear icebreaker in 30 years. 

Arthur told in an interview about his multiple expeditions on the icebreakers, but especially he singled out the high-latitude Arctic deep-water expedition of 2007.

"In fact, I think I was at the North Pole only once, when I reached the bottom of the ocean at the point of the geographic North Pole on the deep water vehicle "Mir"", - said the president of the Association of Polar Explorers.

This year it will be 15 years since this historical event. As a result of the expedition the Mir-1 and the Mir-2 deep manned submersibles were lowered under the drifting ice of the Arctic Ocean. For the first time in history people reached the bottom at the geographic North Pole.  "The Mir-1 set the flag of Russia on the bottom and left a capsule with a message for the descendants. Sampling of soil and flora from a depth of 4,261 meters was carried out.

The celebration of the 15th anniversary of the high-latitude Arctic deep-sea expedition will be held on September 16, 2022 in Moscow. The organizer is the Association of polar explorers. In addition, as part of the XII International Forum "Arctic: the present and the future", some special events will be held in honour of this event. 

A documentary film "Kings of the Oceans. Icebreakers" will be shown on the First Channel on July 31 on the Navy Day.
